About Us

Lakewood was started in Rhinelander, Wisconsin by Bob Metropolis around 35 years ago.

The name Lakewood is a play on Lake (water and fishing) and Wood (hunting and shooting). Our parent company Midwest Textile manufactured bags for them many years ago. Bob sold Lakewood to Berlin Glove which then sold to the Hess Family. Current owner, Steve Wagnitz, got a call from the Hess's, and they offered to sell him the company.

Lakewood has since improved the cases and made them tougher than before. Most of our products are developed by specialists that hunt, fish, or do shooting sports for a living or are heavily engaged. We listen to what the market is looking for and make products to fit those ideas. Our products are unique and different. Tested over time we have proven they are some of the best cases in the industry!

The truth is, most companies outsource their manufacturing to China or some other foreign country. Even a lot of USA made products are outsourced. Not Lakewood. We manufacture our own products so we have control over what we make. We love to say Made in the USA. Better yet, we can say Made in the USA, in our facility, by our people.
